Writing about Insomnia

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Writing about insomnia can help you to find answers to your problems. Studies have shown for years that when a person writes down their feelings, thoughts, emotions, et cetera it can help the person learn to cope with stress.

When a person holds in his stress, feelings, emotions, thoughts et cetera the mind often builds on the repression until it breaks and thus sleeplessness often results. A person does not have to be gifted in creativity or artistic nature to learn how to keep a journal of his or her feelings, emotions and thoughts. Rather, as long as you are literate you can jot down your thoughts and feelings in little time and review the writing to see if any answers exist. To get you started on your journal I will write a symbolic journal of a pending patient and counselor theory to help you to see what can result from the writing procedure.

Problem: Carry has difficulty sleeping at night

Question: Why does Carry have difficulty sleeping at night?

Analyze, what is Carry is lifestyle like? Does Carry drink alcohol to relieve stress? Does Carry often put off her responsibilities finding excuses to avoid finishing the tasks? Does Carry have additional symptoms that chain her mind and causes the insomnia?

History; Carry is a nurse at the local hospital in her town, and she often works swing shifts. Carry does not take drugs nor utilizes alcohol, with the exception on special occasions. Outside of work, Carry works, goes home, rests and returns to work.

eduction: I see a pattern here that has developed over the years that is causing Carry to suffer insomnia.

Carry’s lifestyle is consisting of working long hours and hours that are ranging from day to night shifts, thus interrupting the minds ability to find relaxation. Carry has no life outside of work, thus her social skills are lacking and her ability to enjoy and relax is non-existing for the most part.

Solution: Carry will need to adapt to the situation and learn to take time out for her self and add time off for healthy entertainment. If Carry must continue her work style, then she will need to relax throughout the work schedule to help the mind find a moment of relaxation. If Carry continues this lifestyle, eventually her health will deteriorate, since Carry is having difficulty sleeping at night, thus the body and mind is not getting the relaxation it needs. We can also ask Carry what her eating habits are to continue assessing this situation. My guess is, since Carry is on the run most of her life, her eating habits are suffering nutritional means to survive her lifestyle for a lengthy time.

As you can see, this is merely an assessment of a person’s lifestyle, but writing out the details can help you to appreciate why Carry is suffering.

Insomnia occurs when the mind is overwhelmed. Thus to find relief the person has to take the steps to fight the chaos of the mind, thus finding relief and restoring sleep.

As you begin your journal, you will soon learn more about yourself that you may not expect. Do not be alarmed since when answers are available it often relieves the mind. For example, you may find additional symptoms when writing that leads you to believe that a mental disorder is consuming your mind. This is a good finding, thus your next step should be to get a physical to weed out medical and then move on to mental help to find relief.

Possibly, you recently experienced a death in the family that has brought on insomnia. During your writing techniques, you may learn that you are blaming your self for the death. Blame can consume the mind and cause insomnia, thus you must continue your writing process to learn how you can let go of the blame and begin your life with a missing counterpart. One of the best solutions for coping with death in the family is finding new friends and taking time out to join in social activities without feeling guilty for doing so.

Individuals that bear chronic insomnia ensuing from nervous conditions, medical ailments, mental disorders, overpowering stress, and so forth can frequently discover assistance from the symptoms of insomnia including, fatigue, nervousness, panic attacks, irritation and so forth without difficulty from a expert, or by sticking to a healthier lifestyle.

Few persons suffering insomnia will endure headaches, sleeplessness, fatigue, and have an inability to concentrate throughout the day. The causes of insomnia vary, but for the most part, stress is the main focus when treating the problem. Sleeping disorders may include ongoing insomniac attacks, while other problems causing insomnia may be temporary. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is one of the prevalent disorders that have an effect on millions of people throughout the seasons; however, the disorder is without difficulty treated if action is sought out right away. The disorder usually attacks between seasons, leaving the patient to bear sleeplessness on and off throughout the year. While Seasonal Affective Disorders (SAD) are frequently ministered to with luminous lights, other disorders call for far-reaching procedures.

In view of the fact that stress is one of the foremost causes of insomnia, we can see that modus operandi are indispensable to trim down stressors and fight stress, thus minimizing the stressors can help the person focus on managing sleep. Loads of the procedures employed to reducing stress include, rhythmical breathing techniques, Progressive Muscle Relaxation also known as PMRT, exercise, and managing skills.

Learning to relax the muscles is essential to find a resting area for the mind. Few therapists believe that persons suffering anxiety are also depressed; however, in my studies I found this to be removed from the truth in few cases, thus the focus again is stress to minimize insomnia. Exercise can help relieve arthritis pain and other types of chronic pain, which also increases insomniac attacks. When a person is battling pain, it is often difficult to rest peacefully. Unfortunately, one problem is the advocate of the other since pain causes loss of sleep and lack of sleep increases pain. If you are, suffering arthritis and having difficulty you may want to seek out Chiropractor care, since the care has proven to help millions for all types of illnesses, including arthritis, sleeping disorders, mental disorders, chronic pain and other medical disorders. Rhythmic Breathing is one of the easiest modus operandi utilized in the treatment of insomnia, stress relief, birthing, mental disorder, and so forth.

To practice rhythmical breathing you merely take in a deep breath and exhale slowly. Repeat the procedure until you feel the tension and stress leave your body and mind.

Muscle relaxing techniques differ, as each expert has his or her own strategy for conducting the modus operandi. Stretching is a great method for relaxing the muscles. When a person stretches the body, the tension often runs in another direction since an action is being taking to take control of the body and mind.

Finally, managing skills depends on your situation. For example, what is causing the stress? If you are overwhelmed with debt then a budget is part of your managing scheme that will help you sleep at ease and relax the mind.
